I was very lucky to be included in the Learning to Love by Sheryl Browne Blog Tour, to reveal her cover and review the wonderful book that Sheryl has written. I’ll start by saying how much I truly enjoyed Learning to Love. It’s a lovely story, written beautifully, which pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps grabbing you so that you won’t want to put it down.
A little about Sheryl:
Sheryl Browne grew up in Birmingham, UK, where she studied Art & Design. She wears many hats: a partner in her own business, a mother, and a foster parent to disabled dogs. Creative in spirit, Sheryl has always had a passion for writing. She has previously been published in the US and writes Rom Com because, as she puts it, “life is just too short to be miserable.” Sheryl is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association. Now a little something about Learning to Love.
David Adams is a recent single father, to a son who is harbouring a grudge, despite his fathers best efforts.
Andrea Kelly is the mother to three children, teenagers Ryan and Sophie and toddler Chloe from her relationship with Fiancé Jonathan. She’s also responsible for her ‘nuts’ mother Dee.
We meet David first, a Doctor who’s struggling to connect with his son Jake. It’s clear from the outset that something has happened spur this complicated relationship and David’s exasperation as his son refuses to communicate with him is just as obvious.
Andrea’s complicated life is clear from the beginning, between parenting two teenagers and a toddler, watching over her mother and maintaining her relationship with Jonathan, she’s stretched. She wants more, something for herself and Jonathan isn’t exactly supportive.
When David and Andrea meet, she’s instantly put off by his demeanour, concerned about his parenting skills or lack thereof and generally unimpressed by her handsome new neighbour. Imagine her surprise when that night, the horrific events of the evening, throw them together, living under one roof.
I don’t like to give spoilers in reviews because they do just that, especially with a book like Learning to Love. It grabs you right at the beginning, and keeps a hold, keeping you guessing, laughing and by the end, possibly even weeping.
Sheryl has weaved the haphazard lives of her hero and heroine together beautifully, from the adorable relationship that forms between Ryan and Jake, to the hilarious gossiping neighbours whose meddling brings plenty of giggles and the disturbing behaviour of Jonathan. She’s created a world which you can completely immerse yourself in and I seriously suggest you do.
I read this book over 24 hours, between working and getting ready to attend a wedding! I couldn’t put it down, I laughed so loud at times that I was left explaining myself to my family, who all stared at me like I had two heads. Five enormous shining stars made of platinum for Sheryl Browne and Learning to Love.
