Promo – Murder at Mystery Bay Hotel by Marcia Spillers

Hi everyone! I’m here today with a promo for you!

About the Book

Can Delphie Beauchamp, a Texas born research librarian fresh from a break-up with her two-timing boyfriend, help best friend and newly elected Chief of Police Em Landry, solve a double homicide in the old Mystery Bay Cemetery? Chief Landry needs Delphie’s help in solving the murders, along with determining why specific graves from the early eighteen-hundreds have been vandalized. Her canine best friend in tow, a twenty-two-pound dachshund named Huckleberry, Delphie heads for the tropical island of Mystery Bay, Florida where she begins a journey that includes a pinch of gold, a touch or romance, and a wallop of ghosts, in a race to solve the mystery, of the Mystery Bay Hotel.
A little snippet from the book

The smell of the ocean, crisp and briny like a jar of pickles, held just a hint of murder in the air. I picked up my luggage from the small carousel inside the terminal and opened the glass door of the Mystery Bay International Airport. The sultry, mid-October sunshine hit me all at once, along with the sweet fragrance of the red, frangipani trees that bordered the edges of the sidewalk. Amazing how paradise was just a plane ride away.

“God, what a beautiful day.” I dropped my suitcase on the pink-hued coral sidewalk and pulled out my sunglasses. Before I could slip them on, Huckleberry, my twenty-two pound, red Dachshund whined for me to take off his winter sweater. Poor little guy. The outfit worked great for the chilly October weather in central Texas but not the south Florida humidity.

“Sorry, Huck.” I unhooked his leash and pulled off the sweater. Stretching out his long body, Huckleberry trotted over to the nearest hibiscus bush and hunched over. Seconds later he sighed in relief.
I coughed and fanned the air. Guess he wasn’t that hot in his sweater after all.

I’m Yours

What have I got to do to make you want me?

That’s a question I asked myself a million times, but not just about You about all the ‘you’s’ that came and went before You.

I needed to be thin – You loved my curves

I needed to be taller – You loved it when I went on my tippytoes to kiss you

I needed to be more like all the other girls –You liked my individuality

I needed to know more about how to be a girlfriend – You accepted my relationship immaturity and nurtured it

I had to ask if things were ok, if I was getting this right, if I was overwhelming – You promised never to disappear, pinky swore if there were issues we’d confront them and told me I was making great steps in the direction of being your Mrs Right.

I didn’t know if you cared – You said I was the light at the end of your tunnel

So why, why am I sitting here with my heart ripped apart, my mind on more overdrive than I’ve ever had it, nerves getting me worse than ever before and future wide open once more – You disappeared.

I gave you a card – You said you would simply walk into Mordor for me.

You were my great love.

You were a little bit behind every single smile for the last four months

You were the sunshine in the dark days after I lost my dad

You were the droid I was looking for, the knight in shining armour, the cheerleader who said this girl could.

You broke the pinky swear, you left me with a cold hearted text after I gave you everything I had to give. I was yours, I was your awesome bootiful lovely sweetie. I was your rock when you needed me.

I wonder if you think of me, if you wonder what I’m having for lunch, or that I got home safe, or how my last couple of weeks at work before I start the job I took with hope of more time shared with you are going.

I miss you, more than I knew I could miss someone who was only in my life for a short time.

I wondered on Wednesday how you’d get home that night because I always gave you a lift and sat and held your hand and wished I could sleep in your arms that night as we said goodbye.

I wonder if you ripped up the card I gave you for Valentine’s Day, threw it and the wallet card and the birthday and easter gifts in the bin.

I wonder if I see you in the street months from now, will you smile or will you hide your face and pretend you weren’t the brightest star in my sky for the last 4 months.

I wonder if some other lucky girl gets your good morning  and goodnight messages already.

I wonder if you knew, when you kissed my face all over, and waved and blew me a kiss last time I saw you, that it was goodbye.

I didn’t.

Sorry, for all the things you never expressed were hurting you.

Sorry, for losing my light a little six weeks ago so your tunnel got darker.

Sorry, that I let my anxiety and paranoia push you out of my life.

Sorry, that I’ll never feel your arms around me, your lips on mine, your eyes connect with mine, again.

Truth is, I’m so sorry I could hire a sky writer to fly above you all day so you’d know.

I’m Yours

P.S I’m sorry if you see this and think of it as anything other than a writers expression of a lost love.

About the Author

Jan grew up in Manchester and Derbyshire, spending her formative years on the back of a pony, exploring the hills and moorland around her home. She lived and worked in London and Buckinghamshire for 19 years until moving to Wales in 2005, where she learnt to speak fluent Welsh. Jan has won several writing competitions, including the Allen Raine Short Story competition, the WI Lady Denman Cup, and the Oriel Davies Gallery competition for nature-writing. She has been published in New Welsh Review.

A word from Jan

I wrote my first novel when I was seven, all about the adventures of a little green one-legged spaceman, who crash-landed his tiny ship in my north Manchester suburb. We had plenty of adventures, Fred and me, filling fourteen Lancashire Education Committee exercise books and earning me two gold stars in the process. But when I was eight, a rotund Welsh Mountain Pony by the name of Pixie trotted into my life, and writing was immediately relegated in favour of all things equine.

It took more years than I care to admit for me to resume my writing career. In 2005 we moved to gloriously inspiring mid Wales. In 2009 I stumbled across an Open University creative writing module and the rest, as they say, is history. After completing my OU degree, I fulfilled a lifetime ambition and enrolled on an MA course at Swansea University. The whole experience was magical. It was like being taken by the hand and led back to a place where my imagination could run riot.
I began by writing short stories, which I love, but I always feel disappointed when I have to say goodbye to my characters so soon, and so the next challenge was to attempt a novel. It’s been a fantastic experience, from its shaky start in a brand new exercise book, but now, finally, I have my second novel. I still have a horse – this one’s been with me for over twenty years – but these days I seem to be able to allow the two obsessions – books and horses – to run side by side.

Promo – Her One True Love by Rachel Brimble

Hellllooooo! Me again with another promo! This sounds awesome and I will definitely read when I’m reading again!!! Also, that dress on the cover, stunning!

About the Book

She Can’t Forget Him…
Jane Charlotte Danes has loved the squire of her idyllic country town for as long as she can remember. He is good, kind, and alluring beyond words… and he chose to marry another. Tired of dwelling on her futile longings, Jane plans a move to Bath, where she dreams of a new beginning. But the man who has so imprisoned her heart is only a few steps behind…

He Can’t Let Her Go…
Until now, Matthew Cleaves has endeavored to meet the responsibilities of his position with dignity and good spirits–including his dutiful marriage. But when his wife leaves him for another man, Matthew is at last free to pursue his one true love. Only one vital question remains: will the captivating, stubborn, beautiful Jane allow him the challenge, and the pleasure, of winning her back?..

A little snippet of the book

Matthew turned and faced Jane. “When are you leaving for the city?”

She took another step back, her gaze darting over his face. “The day after tomorrow. Why?”

“Because I will escort you. We can travel together in my carriage.”

“No, I do not need your––”

“I will be going anyway. I planned to visit some contacts in the city in the hope of securing guaranteed trade for Biddestone in the coming year. It seems unnecessary for us to make the trip separately when I have a carriage plenty big enough for us both.”

“There is absolutely no need. Jeannie will be coming with me.”

“My offer still stands.”

She glared. “It’s my intention to start on the path of independence, of finding out what the world has to offer me on my own merit. I will hardly be carving out my own path when at the first step from my home, I lean on you.”
“You are being stubborn.”
She pulled back her shoulders. “And you are not?”

The longer he looked at her, the more Matthew saw the quiet beauty he’d desperately tried to ignore. He took a steadying breath. “Please, Jane. Let me escort you to Bath.”

The seconds passed, but Matthew held his tongue. It was imperative she spoke next, that she understood he didn’t mean to bully her but wanted to ensure her safety to a city ravaged by danger, as much as opportunity.

She sighed. “Fine. On one condition.”
He held her gaze. “Which is?”
Her eyes softened, slowly lighting with mischief. “You smile. Now. You smile at me like you did before she left.”
Heat rose to his face. “You want me to smile?”
“Yes. Smile for me, Matthew.”
Empathy and passion swirled in her eyes, but they also bore a deep, painful awareness that scratched hard over his heart. The longer he stared, the more he wanted to make her happy.
He smiled, his gaze on hers…and was surprised to find the trade no effort at all

EXCERPT
Her sharp green eyes slipped over him as she scanned the arrivals hall. He noticed the dusting of sun-freckles across her cheeks and his heart clenched as he waited. He needed to read her face, to believe she was back for good. Her gaze swept around again, and this time their eyes connected. For a suspended moment it felt as if his heart stopped beating, and the pit of his stomach fell.

Then she grinned at him.

The suitcase swung into her legs at her sudden change of direction. He waved, and she abandoned the case and ran at him. He lifted her off the ground and pressed his eyes shut, not trusting himself to speak. He felt her breath warm on his neck.
